Coddling Islamic Radicals Who Murder Innocents

If you need further proof of the aburd alliance between progressive social policy and radical Islam, here it is. Nutty Florida Pastor Terry Jones made good on his plan to burn the Koran. Mullahs in Afghanistan fired up their followers over the incident, prompting an attack in which twelve United nations workers were murdered. The consensus among progressives is the murders are the fault of Jones, not the Muslims who committed them. Because no one who is offended based on race, gender or any religion other than Christianity has to take has to take responsibility for his actions.

I do not support Jones’ burning of the Koran, but lay blame where the blame should be laid. If one is so screwed up by radical Islamic culture that the burning of the Koran by strangers on another continent leads one to murder a dozen people who are there to help, then the Koran burning is not the issue we need to be worrying about. It is the cultural rot that creates the mindset. It does not help that our own progressive cultural rot makes it politically incorrect to note this.

It sounds astoundingly logical to me: it is far worse to murder a dozen people because some marginal people who do not believe in your holy book in the first place burn it in protest. There cannot be a sensible debate over the issue. Murdering people is worse than burning books. The mindset that allows one to kill over perceived blasphemy is worse than burning a book to condemn its ideas. The unfortunately ironic part is that Jones has inadvertently--and tragically--confirmed the problem he has with radical Islam.

We could debate the merits of Islam, scant though they may be, but that is not the real issue here. This incident should be a wake up call to what progressive apologists are willing to excuse in the name of their social agenda. The death threats that came after the Mohammed cartoon’s publication should have proven to the world the insane rage of radical Islamists. Progressive Van Jones leading cheers for the 9/11 attackers the day after should have proven the left is ready, willing, and able to excuse any Muslim behavior perceived to be a lashing out over their ’oppression.” The murder of the Un workers over an obscure pastor’s unwise actions and the subsequent excusing of said murders because of the pastor’s actions ought to be enough to prove we are not being reasonable in placing responsibility for evil acts or even weighing them correctly when determining their morality.

The Anti-Intellectual Hypocrisy of Earth Hour

Earth Hour, or as it is known around my house, the second and third acts of Mean Girls, was marked last night. At least, I assume it was perhaps in some circles of college town Columbia. Otherwise, any occasion not involving alcohol and fireworks goes unnoticed in South Carolina. It is not because we are dumb people in the Palmetto State. Quite the opposite. We are not going to participate in something so stupid, yet lays claim to being enlightened.

I am reminded of Southern comedian Jerry Clower, who once famously quipped that some people are educated far beyond their intelligence level. I would add many are educated beyond any level of common sense. As proof, note how many go along with such progressive ideas as Earth Hour without a lick of reasoned argument as to why, but count themselves among the intellectuals regardless.

The best way you can demonstrate the stupidly of shutting off the lights for an hour is by remembering this allusion to artists, cartoonists, and various pop culture creators: what has best symbolized a fictional character soundly having a flash of inspiration? That is right--a light bulb flashing on over his head. Remember that, Gaia worshippers, when fumbling around in the dark next year while texting your buddy to congratulate each other on your token gift to the Earth.

Yes, token. So you cut off your lights. Big deal. Your refrigerator was still running. Your washing machine might have been. Bet your computer was still on, too. You have to commit to these things, people. Give up keeping your food cold and fresh. Clean your clothes by hand in a bucket. Forget communicating via the internet. Let us see how committed you really are to this how environmentalism thing.

Cutting off your lights for an hour a year is nothing. I sleep eight hours a night with all mine off, and I would have every stick of furniture in my house made from rain forest wood if I had the option. The good Brazilian kind in which scuff marks from the chain some hippie used to tie himself to the tree had to be sanded off after it was cut down. No, you have to show a bigger commitment,

Alas, the logical suggestion--shut off the life support units at the local hospital--is one I am afraid to suggest. The environmental movement is full of hardcore abortionists and euthanasia enthusiasts who need very little encouragement in pushing their human extinction agenda. We are fast approaching a day when such will be the mainstream. Prediction: Infanticide will be part of the Democrat party platform by 2020. Maybe even 2016.

On second thought, you all should just sit in the dark for an hour a year. Munch on your granola bars, with visions of dancing, hairy arm-pitted lesbians and graying pony tailed hippies dancing by scores of Barack Obama inspired windmills in your head. You will still be hypocritical idiots, but at least you will be harming no one but yourselves that way.

Mike Huckabee Attacks Famous Unwed Mother; Shows True Colors

I have made no secret I do not like Mike Huckabee. He is a big government Republican with more than a little snake handling Christianity in him. The guy literally thinks he is a rock star by playing guitar and hanging out the increasingly conspiracy minded Chuck Norris. I am quite certain his star in the south will quickly fade. It is my contention is current popularity below the Mason-Dixon is because “he is on teevee just like our favorite wrassfers! Yee haw!” if you catch my drift. Norris’ Walker: Texas Ranger has not exactly faded from memory, either.

But let us get back to more concrete reasons Huckabee is not presidential material. He exercises very poor discernment in who he casts his judgmental eye upon. Namely this time, Natalie Portman, whom he has criticized for glamorizing out of wedlock children. Nearly twenty years ago, Dan Quayle ruined his political career by critiquing the out of wedlock pregnancy of fictional Murphy brown. Not only has Huckabee not learned from Quayle’s actions, he escalated it by attacking an actual person.

To set a few things straight, I do not advocate pre-marital sex. I think it does cheapen the institution of marriage by making sex solely a recreational activity. I also think getting pregnant without being married breaks down the integrity of the family unit. Both effects are a detriment to our culture. Nevertheless, it happens. It is what comes after that is important once it does.

I will be frank. Portman has made a mistake getting pregnant out of wedlock. We all make mistakes. We often make very big ones. But she is making the right choices now. She is not going to abort her baby. She is going to put her baby above her acting career, which is a big risk considering the short shelf life a pretty young actresses in Hollywood. Her child is going to be loved, too. What Huckabee called glamorizing out of wedlock children was a genuine display of happiness. Portman is a woman who thanked the lowest ranking technicians on Black Sawn by name in her Oscar acceptance speech. How rare do you think that is among arrogant Hollywood stars?

There is a more important underlying issue with Huckabee’s attitude beyond anything he said about portman. That is an underlying contempt for women who have made the mistake of getting pregnant outside of marriage. If Christians do not embrace such women, then we are pushing them towards the abortion clinic. Even a woman who keeps her baby can become a pariah. Those things happen not because a star like portman glamorizes her mistake, but judgmental Christians like Huckabee are not willing to forgive and offer help after the deed is done.

UPDATE: Huckabee is backtracking, but has not changed his mind.

UPDATE II: Was Huckabee taking a jab at Sarah Palin over her daughter Bristol, another young lady who has made all the right decisions after a mistake, for her out of wedlock baby?
