The only valuable conclusion I can draw from the educational union protest in Wisconsin is it serves as further proof the loathing progressives have for the will of the people. They believe themselves better than the unwashed masses--that would be you and me, folks--and will take all measures to defy ourt will when it goes against their agenda.
The elected Democrats in the legislature are the worst. It is an utter dereliction of duty to flee the legislature rather than face the opposition. These bozos were elected to do their jobs, not run away from them. If I were a Wisconsin Democrat, I would be upset my team has fled rather than act professionally. But that does not seem to be the case here. Progressivism has become a by any means necessary game.
A delusional one, as well. I have seen dozens of Egyptian flags among the protestors and seen several interviews in which union members have expressed the romantic idea they are for the same cause. Really? Casting aside Egypt underwent a military coup celebrated by useful idiots around the world and is likely to be ruled by the fundamentalist, aniti-Zionist, terrorist organization the Muslim Brotherhood, how is Gov. Scott Walker anything like former pres. Hosni Mubarak?
Mubarak was a president for life who routinely, brutally violated the basic human rights of anyone who opposed him in any way. Walker is the freely elected governor of Wisconsin who won based on his plans to bring sanity to the state government budget. You can read his proposal here, the heart of the matter is ending overly expensive collective bargaining for public sector unions with the exception of law enforcement and firefighters.
it pays to note that 859 of the education union workers protesting earn a combined $97.9million in salary and benefits for an average of $114,000 each. (Source) These educators are not exactly toiling in sweatshops for peanuts. Can they fairly compare themsdelves to the beat down people of Egypt who have been a stranger to freedom for 5,000 years? No, but they can assume the role of Mubarak and demand "rights" in opposition to democratly elected officials like walker.
It is not just the people of Wisconsin who feel public sector unions have too much power. a full 64% polled are in opposition, including, to their credit, 42% of Democrats. public sector unions are a hard sell.
Presumably, that is why the Wisconsin unions are engaged in such strong arm tactics. it is rather sad they feel the need to demonize the people by comparing their plight to those of the Egyptians. Sadder still elected democrats in the lrgislature are cooperating in contempt of their constituents.
Public sector unions: they are unionized against you.
